Statement of Need: This activity was developed in 1976 in response to the Radiology Specialists' need to keep abreast of advances and new developments in Radiology. Dr. Donald Deye, Medical Director, Oakstone Medical Publishing, and other practitioners surveyed the opinions of colleagues and practitioners and agreed on the following: (1) Radiology specialists must maintain skills and competency; (2) The medical journals are a fertile source of new information which, however, is too diverse and voluminous to be effectively used by most busy clinicians; (3) Radiology specialists need a timesaving way to more effectively use the peer-reviewed reports that appear in the journals; (4) The use of this audio is a practical source of education medicine.

Intended Audience: Radiologists and others interested in imaging and diagnostic radiology.

Learning Objectives: This activity is designed to provide the participant with a regular monthly overview and critical analysis of the most current, clinically useful information available in the monthly journal literature covering strategies and advances in the radiological diagnosis of disease entities.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
  • Understand evidence of the safety and efficacy of such approaches.
  • Controversies, advantages and disadvantages of various modalities, including conventional radiography, MRI and CT, ultrasound, special procedures and interventional techniques are emphasized.
  • Physicians will also find reviews of the latest basic science findings and the impact of these on clinical problems, as well as concise, targeted lectures by noted specialists on the most important practice-oriented subjects in these areas.
  • Participants will also find useful guidance on integrating non-conventional principles and practices with conventional ones — and they'll learn how to select and employ the best of all available approaches.
  • After completing each month's issue, participants should have a working familiarity with the most important information and perspectives presented, and generally should be able to apply in practice the information supplied.
